The Benefits of Becoming a Yogi

Isn't yoga for females? Don't you have to be flexible to do yoga? Have you asked yourself these questions at least once about yoga? You'd be surprised to know that these are not what is necessary to participate in yoga and to become a yogi.

Yoga has many health benefits, and in this society of go, go, go we need the time to think about ourselves and our body. Everyday we encounter stress, an imbalance to oneself, and the inability to find time for our selves. Yoga can be done within your home, hotel, or taken as classes and easy to come across. So what are the benefits?

Feeling haggard and old? Yoga helps with the detoxification process and gives the appearance of slowing aging. Yoga brings awareness to your body and organs. Aside from boosting your immunity level, because of the awareness of your body and how it moves, if there is something wrong with your body you will be able to notice the signs much easier.

Stress in a work place will cause a person to gain weight, yoga will help eliminate those stress levels by bringing a calm to oneself. Your concentration will empty your mind of unnecessary thinking and concentrate on your breathing. It becomes a meditation with the awareness of your body and what it does as your calming agent. Listening to yourself breathe and the knowledge of knowing the flow of your breath helps clear your mind with long deep breaths. Aside from eliminating stress, it brings down one's blood pressure, pulse rate and respiratory rate. This helps to eliminate heart disease which is the main killer in the United States. Breathing awareness lowers your pulse rate which in turn lowers your blood pressure. Yoga ensure that your body is getting all the necessary oxygen through your blood stream.

Yoga relies heavily on your core, so if you are looking to work on your abdominal area this is a great way. Your core is a very important part of yoga because if you have a strong core it will help with your posture and body strength. You need your core to support your back which helps eliminate back compression and pain. If you sit in front of a computer all day, it is nice to give your back a break and will also keep you from slouching over a desk. When doing yoga moves, your core is what you use to position yourself into different poses and the need of the core will help other body parts get the most out of a stretch and strength in the best way possible without injury.

Yoga is for everyone! Regardless of age, gender or any ailments. Everyone gets the same health benefits and there are different variations to a certain pose to accommodate to people. Surprisingly for cancer patients they recommend yoga. Why? It helps build up their red blood cell count and helps with the nauseousness from going through chemotherapy. For a female is does have a benefit of controlling some menopausal effects, such as controlling hot flashes. If you are an athlete, it helps build up lung capacity to improve your endurance. If you are feeling tired, yoga helps bring oxygen to your brain to help wake it up and bring awareness to your surroundings.

If you haven't tried it already, yoga should be something that is tried at least once in one's life time. Everyone has something that is putting their body, mind or soul off balance. So take the time to to rejuvenate yourself and bring yourself back to being a young, stress-free, and health conscious person and see what benefits you find from becoming a yogi.
